Nobody can really define the charm of the Ticino Canton, so many are the fascinations that it offers the visitor. It may be the Southern magic, its mild climate, the lush Mediterranean vegetation, the languid atmosphere that
pervades the whole region.
In the Ticino one feels at ease straightaway, everything is comfortably near,
everything seems to welcome us. In
rapid succession one goes from majestic alpine landscapes to gentle lake
scenes, from sloping hills green with
rich crops to wild streams rushing
through gorges and ravines. Once we
have left behind frantic city lite, we
find ourselves in solitary valleys where
time passes slowly and uniformly,
where traditions are stili part of everyday lite and even the characteristic
architetture of the grey stone houses
seems to have a "soul". Scattered here
and there, slender clocktowers witness
the ancient faith of these people, and
so do the naive religious scenes paint-
ed on the dwellings façades. Along the
way romantic little churches and
chapels, at times decorated with precious paintings, provide an opportunity
for a moment of meditation.
Everything seems to be in man's measure, the man of Ticino: open and
friendly, sociable but also very discreet.
A man who has treasured ali the different experiences and cultures that have
met and been joined together in this
land. In fact, it is not by chance that
the Ticino is chosen as an adopted
fatherland by many artists, men of letters and scientists coming from all over
the world. Presumably they have
found here a land that, better than any
other, offers a well-balanced anserene way of lite, for a genuine rela-
tionship with men and nature. Even
more than its evocati ve beauty, this is
perhaps the real charm of Ticino. |
